A Journey of Love and Forgiveness

Valle de Sibundoy · Putumayo, Colombia

Bomboná Amazon Forgiveness Collection

In the Valle de Sibundoy, in northwestern Putumayo, Colombia, two indigenous peoples — the Inga and the Camëntsá — have lived side by side for centuries. Despite deep cultural and historical differences, they chose a path of reconciliation: an annual joint celebration known as Kalusturinda and Bëtsknaté, the Carnival of Forgiveness.

This collection is Bomboná's tribute to that act of courage. Each earring is handmade in collaboration with the Inga community, drawing inspiration from the colours and forms of the Amazon rainforest — and from the enduring human capacity to forgive.

"True forgiveness — stopping blame and granting forgiveness is a task that requires humility and deep respect for others."

The Celebration of Two Peoples Challenging Their Deepest Prejudices

The Inga people, connected historically to the Peruvian Inca civilisation and speakers of Quechua, and the Camëntsá — despite past conflicts — chose reconciliation over resentment. Their shared carnival begins the Friday before Ash Wednesday, with family pilgrimages evolving into grand processions through the valley.

Participants visit elders seeking forgiveness, using the phrase "Divi Divichidu" — "lend me your carnival."

Priests chant hymns praising nature and its elements. The carnival is a living reminder that peace is not the absence of conflict — it is the daily choice to forgive.

Earrings of Forgiveness

Bomboná presents this handmade earring series in collaboration with the Inga community. Each pair draws inspiration from the colours and shapes of the Amazon rainforest, featuring beading craftsmanship passed through generations of Inga artisans.

Every stitch is placed by hand. Every bead is chosen by eye. The result is not just jewelry — it is a connection to narratives of resilience, cultural inheritance, and shared growth.

When you purchase a pair from this collection, you support the Inga community directly, helping to sustain their craft, their livelihood, and their culture for the next generation.
